About Nora Doebrich and Supportive Healing:

This past year has been a time of significant transformation and growth, for me.  It began 2 years ago, with my pursuit to become a yoga instructor and has developed into me beginning my private practice for therapy. This venture actually began about 9 years ago when I started graduate school at Pratt Institute, studying Creative Arts Therapy. My 2 years at Pratt changed my life forever, giving me the opportunity to address past traumas in my life, while equipping me with the tools to heal and grow. This experience has allowed me to gain empathy for those I work with and better understand myself as a person and a therapist.

Throughout the last 8 years, I have had a wide variety of experiences, which have further developed my understanding of myself and my skills as a therapist. I have worked in the following settings; inpatient mental health hospital, domestic violence shelter, alternative high school for adolescents struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues, outpatient mental health clinic for children, adolescents and families and outreach counseling services to individuals and families who have experienced trauma (child fatality, domestic violence, child abuse, sexual abuse and violent crimes within our community).

These experiences have expanded my view of our world and aided in my self-discovery. While this work has been intense and extremely challenging, I have gained a deeper understanding of my own humanity and empathy. I am deeply grateful for those who I have had been able to work with, who have allowed me into their inner world. They have shared their most difficult moments, and have demonstrated the strength and courage to make positive changes in their lives.

I have training in many models of therapy, including; Creative Arts Therapy (Dance, Music, Art and Drama Therapy), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Client Centered Therapy, Trauma-focused Therapy and Structural Family Therapy. I do not follow one model of therapy, rather I meet my client where he or she is and listen to the presenting reason(s) for seeking therapy. I view therapy as a shared journey between myself and my client and together we work towards addressing the presenting needs. I utilize my education, experiences and foundations in therapy models to support and intervene to promote healing and growth.
My belief is that we cannot promote healing unless we address our entire being, in mind, body and soul. Therefore, I do not solely use talk therapy, rather, I utilize multiple techniques that allow my clients to reconnect with their mind and body, providing a more holistic process. I have found that this method of therapy allows for a deeper understanding of self and can lead to lasting resolution and change.

As I embark on this new journey, I am looking forward to continuing to support those who are in a place where they would like to begin or continue their healing. I am open to working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. I have experience working with the following concerns; trauma related concerns, depression, post-partum depression, anxiety, recovering from abuse, ADHD, stress, sleep difficulties, infertility, miscarriages and grief and loss issues.
